The Community Champions Awards 2015, on November 10th, were hosted by The Wycombe Partnership and Wycombe District Council. The event celebrated community engagement and volunteer work accross the District, with the aim of recognising the community's Unsung Heroes!
Prizes awarded included Volunteer and Young Volunteer of the Year, Community Project, Community Group and Business in the Community.
In the Business in the Community category, Excel was shortlisted along with Marlow FM and Red Kite Housing Association. Excel were awarded the prize for their impact on the local community through charity fundraising, the Charity Swap Shop project, and the Charity Partnership Scheme.
Through Excel's Charity Swap Shop, Excel collects unwanted stationery and furniture items from local corporate customers and distributes them to local charities that need them. This initiative was intially set up with one of Excel's local charity customers, but the project has since grown, and items are now distributed to around 20 local charities on a regular basis.
The Charity Partnership Scheme, set up in April, offers charities an additional funding stream towards the everyday running costs of their charity. Charities recommend business to Excel, and these businesses then become their Charity Partners. Excel then donates up to 3% of the charity's combined Charity Partner spend each month. The Scheme was developed as a way to grow the business through community engagement and the support of local and national charitable organisations.
The Business in the Communty 2015 prize was awarded to Excel by Heart of Bucks, and included a £200 gift towards Excel's community work. The prize money will be donated to Excel's current fundrasing campaign for two local charities, Scannappeal and Wycombe Youth Action.
The Excel team will be holding a fundraising event on Friday 27th November for the two charities - with a street collection in High Wycombe Town Centre. Make sure you catch the Excel team members in town on the day and give us your support.
